IBM Seals Lucrative Deals with Three Utility Companies
Managed hosting and technology giant IBM has sealed lucrative deals with three utility companies, thanks to being one of the pioneering companies to set up a software for smarter water management. Most of the companies focus on electric services, IBM included.
IBM is offering sensors for the utility companies to install at the different areas of their water distribution systems. This is in an effort to prevent water contamination and even water waste.
The three companies availing of these systems are the Fukuoka District Waterworks Agency – which provides services to eight major cities in Japan, Australia’s Northern Territory-based The Power and Water Corporation and the Lower Colorado River Authority – which serves more than 2.2 residents in the state.
The Power and Water Corporation, which currently serves 80,000 people, sealed a $14.5 payment deal with IBM for the latter to design and build a more efficiently managed system that will delivery both electricity and water effectively – even sewage.
The Lower Colorado River Authority revealed that it will be using the software provided by IBM to lower water and maintenance costs. The company covers about 58 counties alone in Texas and the usage of IBM tools will effectively manage electricity and water transmission systems.
The Fukuoka District Waterworks Agency aims for suitable amount of drinking water in its coverage area composed of eight major cities in Japan. This is translated to about 2.3 million people.
