Implied Pot Odds
Poker online pot odds are mathematical calculations that determine if calling a bet based on hand probability percentages and the amount of pay-off contained in the pot. It sounds complicated but can be figured out using a simple formula. When a bet exceeds a larger percent of the pot than the probability odds of hitting your online poker hand, it is a losing proposition over the long run.
However, sometimes the decision is not completely clear cut because the pot odds are close to even, or just a little less than favorable. In this case, a player can take into account “implied pot odds.” This approach looks at the current pot odds and then looks ahead to how those odds may increase and become more favorable based on future bets going into the pot.
With implied odds, a player makes the decision to call a bet because the expectation is that the pot will grow larger and create more favorable pot odds. To estimate implied odds, look at how many more players might put bets into the pot. Two or three more bets might tip the pot odds to a favorable number.
When faced with a nearly even pot-odds decision, the player can call the bet, but do so with the intention of folding if one of your “outs” cards does not materialize. This way, the player can expect to reap a bigger pot if the draw is made, and if not, then folding without losing any more bets to the pot. Keep this in mind when you play poker online.
