Spend on Mobile Broadband Likely to Double by Next Year

GSM Association, a consortium of more than 800 mobile operators worldwide that represents the interests of the mobile communications industry, has recently conducted a business survey across the US, Europe and the Asia Pacific Region and has published its report. This report categorically states that GSM technology is gaining acceptance worldwide, despite the negative publicity given to the technology in the press. Moreover, the survey results clearly show that mobile broadband, along with other remote access technologies like Wi-Fi, will greatly benefit from the allocation of funds worldwide for the development of mobile technology.

The survey revealed that more than twelve percent of the employees in a company are provided access to mobile broadband by their employers, while nearly seventy percent of the employers provide Virtual Private Network access or other kinds of remote access to their employees with a dongle broadband or laptop.

The survey further revealed that though companies recognise the need for newer and better technology, they are still reluctant to invest on technology for their staff. Nearly sixty percent of the companies provide such technology only to top-level staff like managers, directors etc., while less than forty percent provide such technology to their sales staff. However, with the recognition of the benefits of HSPA Mobile Broadband, companies might change their policies and start spending more for all employees.
